How Privacy Surveillance Affects Us

The fbi is watching us, and this has become a widespread concern among many people today. Technology continues to improve, but it is also making it simpler for them to spy on us. That is why privacy concerns are more severe than ever. Therefore, in this article, we will delve into how all this privacy intrusion impacts our daily lives.

Surveillance Technology

Surveillance technology is becoming extremely sophisticated, providing the authorities with an even more detailed view of our activities. From facial recognition software to GPS tracking, these technologies have the capability to violate our privacy. I have been involved in cybersecurity for five years, and I have witnessed how some of these technologies can be used to spy on individuals without them being aware of it.

Facial Recognition

Face Recognition is all the rage lately. It can be useful for law enforcement, but it also brings up questions about who is being surveilled and whether it’s fair.

There was this study by NIST that showed face recognition performs better on lighter skinned individuals than for darker ones. This raises concerns about equity and ethical implications of using such technology.

GPS Tracking

GPS tracking has become very widespread. Most people don’t realize it, but their devices are continually providing location information to apps and services.

So, that information can be utilized to monitor someone’s movements, which is a big deal for privacy and safety. To tackle this issue, I have taken measures to reduce my own vulnerability to GPS tracking by turning off location services on my mobile phone and utilizing apps that focus on privacy.

Government Oversight

Government Supervision is key when it comes to securing our information. Back in the US, there’s the Privacy Regulation from ’74 that establishes guidelines for keeping individual data protected.

But here’s the thing, that act? It’s got its restrictions and it’s not always rigorously adhered to. To guarantee the safeguarding of our privacy, it is essential for both the government and private industry to take initiative steps in oversight and control monitoring tools.

Personal Responsibility

It’s not just on the government and the companies; we also need to contribute. Being cautious with the technology we employ and taking steps to protect our information preserves our privacy. It implies being vigilant with the applications and services we utilize, reviewing privacy terms, and securing our devices with robust passwords and encoding methods.
